Ya, sounds about right.

Old joke about the traditional degree of sociability 'round here:
Man builds a house by a stream.
Sees wood chips float by.
Grabs an axe and goes upstream to see who dares set up shop so close by.

Bruh, here in the Balkans, at least some skinship is necessary for friends, no matter how large or small a circle of friends is or whether it includes just one gender or both the two dominant ones (sadly, trans, nb and intersex people are still largely or completely overlooked around here, but that's a story for another time), and that goes for family and relatives, too. If you want to see friendly skinship at its maximum - come visit the Balkans!

I don't think of hugs and pecks on the cheek count as skinship. At least not as they usually use the term in yuri manga

Meanwhile up here in Finland that level of personal space invasion might get you knifed as a panic reflex. Different places, different norms.

History, technically. Some particularly convoluted parts thereof at that too, you p much need a scorecard to try to track the varying participants and sides of the Russian Civil War.

Funny how most of the bad blood stems from the Russian (and, to a lesser extent, Spanish) Civil War.

Probably has a lot to do with the fact those were about the only occasions Anarchists actually tried to get something done on larger scale and butted heads with the Bolsheviks in the process. Arshinov's History of the Makhnovist Movement is a pretty interesting insider take on it (he was one of Makhno's lieutenants), particularly the parts where he more or less grudgingly admits to the reasons his side lost (TL;DR - the Bolsheviks were better organised and more ruthless).

The Makhnovists are far from the only example in the Russian Civil War. Just look at the revolts of the Green Armies, both around Tambov and in Siberia. Or at the mutiny at Kronstadt. And other examples.

...except the loosely defined "Greens", so called because many such groups sheltered in forests, rarely had much anything to do with Anarchism (whereas Makhno's "Blacks" in the Ukraine were explicitly so) and ran the gamut from fed-up peasants (Tambov being a prominent case) and disgruntled soldiers to outright bandits.

This kind of character development is what I was waiting for in Citrus but sadly never received.

"Actually better than Citrus" isn't really much of an achievement mind you... :U

In all fairness to Ronnie Raygun he didn't literally die in office. Soviet Premiers conversely were like the damn Pope.

And then people wonder why there's bad blood between Marxists-Leninists and Anarchists.

I'd imagine the outright shooting matches they sometimes had over their disagreements (Nestor Makhno says hi) spoke for themselves.

Amusingly enough, at the time, the American president was Reagan, an even bigger tottering mummy.

I mean the US didn't build a semiautomatic nuclear counterstrike system in part because they were legit worried their top leaders were too decrepit to grok what was even going on if the shit hit the fan...

1982, followed by a succession of tottering mummies owing to the gerontocratic character of the Party higher levels, but that's another story. (Period Russian joke: "Who supports Gorbachev?" "Nobody, he can walk by himself.")

^^ Are you referring to Komari's lying to her bf? Because, if that's it, I seriously doubt anyone in this sanctuary of yuri gives a rat's ass about that dude.

TBF to the lad so far as we know he's basically getting the raw deal through no fault of his own.

Uhh... What the heck kinda results was I expecting while just browsing virtually blind through Japanese websites?

Tentacles, probably. :v

Truly a menace to public decency he was. But that chestful of medals rendered him bulletproof so there was nothing to be done but wait for old age to do its work.

It's so pure that it'll almost make you forget about the fact that an adult groomed a 14-year-old girl.

...I'm not convinced Ema's terribly confused and rather pitiful fumbling can in good faith be called "grooming".

the massive taboo over homosexuality (past, and even into the present in many places)

wow you clearly arent LGBT+. we are as hated as we were in the 1950's. everywhere.

Hell of a lot more equal rights under the law in civilised countries, tho.

The whole concept of skinship confuses and annoys me. The idea that light petting is just a normal part of close female friendships just seems made up. A cheap device for fan service, and to spice up yuri plots.

Eh, depending on usage, skinship can just be a word for simple physical affection, not necessarily something romantic or sexual. Leaning against someone, putting an arm around their shoulders for a moment, other gestures of friendly contact. It's definitely over-employed for fan service purposes, but some people are always ready to get really close into your personal space, especially when they're happy.

I've never heard of skinship outside yuri manga. It almost always used to refer to the light petting that plutonic gal pals use to show affection. Yuri tries to make believe that cuddling their friends is just as much a part of a young girl's life as playing grab Boob in the locker room and misguided crushes on other girls.

Eh, it's pretty common, girls do that all the time, especially straight girls.

Really? (Sigh) For some reason that bums me out. I guess I just want all physical affection between girls to be the blossoming of true love. Now it feels like some of the yuri magic has been lost to the world.

Did not expect that line from Akira of all people...

I mean. She's not exactly one to give a toss about conventions of any kind, has been in the loop for some time now and her overriding priority regarding Ayako and Asuka is their happiness. What concerns she has are about the practicalities not the principles.

Awe, she got jealous but I hope nothing big comes from this. It was obviously a platonic kiss, the twins could never look at anyone that way they are too deep in love with each other.

Well duh. Just Yuu being Yuu, probably much to her own irritation too.

Are my eyes playing a trick on me or that girl actually has elf ears?

I looked over that “gazing into the distance” panel like a dozen times trying to clarify whether the elf thing was figurative or literal and tbh I’m not seeing it.

May be a questionable rendition of "fairy", which IIRC is a reasonable translation of an old Chinese term for any number of supernatural or otherworldly women (think "celestial maiden") and apparently a somewhat archaic/poetic flattering epithet for a beautiful lady.

Or that's how it was used in one or two manhwas set in pseudo-Ancient Chinese settings I read elsewhere anyway. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
