The day Fate has a female protagonist master in an anime is the day pigs fly. I thought it would happen with Fate/Prototype but that was just an OVA trailer. Fast forward years later and we get a Fate/Apocrypha anime before Fate/Prototype even though that already had everything it needed from that OVA alone.
Also I've never seen a japanese video game where you can pick the gender of the protagonist and the game favoring the female protagonist in promo material except for SwordCraft Story. Gudao for the Fate/GO OVA was just as expected.

I wrote a paragraph's worth of a comment in the anime season forum thread here when it came out. I was hyped for what seemed like a few minutes before I remembered Extella/Zero exists and that we never actually got to see Hakuno and Nero together. Since I am very dubious with Fate in general, I'm not expecting anything to come of that. If it really is female hakuno as a protagonist and not as a "fake" that will get killed off, and I'm proven wrong, then I promise to make a sacrificial offering to SHAFT for doing the impossible. Until then, I'm not holding my breath.
Edit: And those Male Hakuno looking eyes at the very end helps with my Extella/Zero scenario too.
