Didn't this ship come from the anime version of http://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/k_on_ch08 ? since there's no Mugi vision on the anime Ritsu assumes that Mugi likes Sawako, not like it really matters Sawa-chan loves Mugi or at least her cakes

I think it's mostly YuiAzu and Mitsu were already paired up, which left these two without natural partners. They're the leftovers.

Actually it is THE ONLY semi-official pairing from K-On!. In the first season the others notice mugi giving odd looks to sawa-chan and ask her if she loves her? And she responds I was just thinking girl with girl is very good! :D
