Something about how ... dainty the knight is being strikes me as a bit silly. I mean, she's facing to the side, with her hands in her lap, and is just gently leaning over, like she's going for a quick peck on the cheek or she's tasting a bite of food she's been offered. At the same time, the princess is full on leaning into it.

I guess that princess is sitting on chair/throne that have no space for legs under it, and she "slide" to the edge of it. Knight is sitting like that since she can't do it "straight" since there would be no space for her knees, so she sits sideways. Why she don't lift herself? Maybe she wants to look elegant when doing it? You know how soldiers sometimes have to keep being "still" when doing their job in outside of battle.
