What lovely girlish highlights in Aoi's hair. The mangaka has a flair for style.

i know, right?! And what a sweet gf she's got! That oneshot was quite fulfilling, it's the very best from the anthology ~

This was a really good story and a very interesting take on the little mermaid. It's rare such a pearl in Yuri. If you're reading this, go read the story!
I'm off reading the second story now.

I can't be the only one who thinks "Mermaid Line" should be the name of a railway.

Ayumi and Aika Chapter 1:

First page, first panel - Best way to introduce a boy into a yuri-manga.

First page, second panel - Best dafug-face in yuri-history.

I'm confused. There's no boy on that page. There's one in part two briefly, but Aika shows up and he gets chased off.

It's just a joke^^ Cause Ryuunosuke (which is the manliest japanese name I've ever heard, i feel sorry for her) is still living as a boy at this point of the story and the words "I think it was a mistake that I was born a man" is probably the best way to introduce a biological man as love-interest into a yuri-manga.

It's a shame that there too little with a transsexual and a yuri focus.

Hell, there aren't many good sympathetic trans portrayals in manga at all. Certainly the only ones I've read have been this, Hourou Musuko and Double House. I'm a bit on the fence about Kyou Kara Yonshimai since it stumbles a lot. Most of the rest I've seen have either been joke/titillation characters or non-passing "Newhalf" prostitutes.

And well, the only trans man I've seen in manga at all is here:

Ah, read double house and began with Hourou Musoku (i'm on chapter 12, but i like the idea of a gender-bendered heterosexual romance^^).

Double House was great, but i never unterstood the yuri-tab. Looked more like friendship for me and Maho seemed pretty heterosexual.

It's sad that Ayumi and Aika and Kyou Kara Yonshimai seem to be the the only Mangas with Trans-Girl x Girl (and Kyou Kara Yonshimai is also that kind of manga that I don't know if I should hate or like it...)

By the way, sorry for the bad english. I began to write english for a short time ago again and it passed a couple of years since school^^

That's okay. Although the word "T-Girl" sounds a bit like porn language to my ears (much the same way "shemale" is primarily a sex trade word"). "Trans girl" (or woman) as a two-word phrase is a bit more common these days. But totally understandable you might not know any of this not being a native speaker. I get what you mean in any case.

I did forget that one of the characters in Bokura No Hentai is trans, but I don't really read it so I can't vouch for their treatment.

There is another sympathetic trans portrayal, in this case a very young trans girl, Cotton Candy Love. It's a one-shot in Tsubomi 11, and I always have trouble remembering where it is, but I managed to find it. It's not the happiest story, but the trans girl is clearly a good person and not the one causing problems.

Ah, thanks will bear thisi n my mind^^ Read this T-Girl phrase somewhere and i thought it could be a established word^^ Bokura No Hentai was also in my to read-list,

Remembering, read this too, a while ago. It was a very sweet and nice story, but sadly too short :(

It's also sad that Ayumi and Aika hat only 2 chapters, the two where a very sweet couple^^ In fact, they where my favorite couple in mermaid line, perhaps because they where the only couple to end happy together.

There's a trans man character in Poor Poor Lips (http://dynasty-scans.com/series/poor_poor_lips) but he doesn't show up till later and dynasty doesn't have those chapters uploaded. He's written surprisingly well, too.

Also, Bokura no Hentai (http://dynasty-scans.com/series/bokura_no_hentai) is superb and has alllll kinds of gender explorations in addition to the canonical trans girl.

Anyway! What a wonderful story :) warms my little queer trans heart to be able to see myself so clearly in Aika's character.

Heyy I was reading another of this Author's series and Megumi and Aoi appear in it as side characters, it sort of shows that they do end up sticking together in college, potentially in a relationship who knows! They're still shown to be really close. In case anyone is curious, it's called Liar x Liar, it's a cute pseudo-incest series (het). But since I like this author and their story telling and art style I keep up with up with a lot of their works :') I wouldn't be able to tell you off the top of my head all the chapters they appear in but just so y'know!

First arc and Ayumi/Aika's story were nice. I think it is nice how the author reaffirms their respective feelings in those two stories, though Yukari/Mayuko's was definitely more of a sad ending.

More recent stories in this genre and the world in general has shifted in conventions so much, that I forget how things were like a decade ago. I get worked up over endings where people don't end up together because society or whatever, but I have to remind myself there can be different endings. There can be different fates in this world. Different possibilities. And as much as I would like things to be a certain way, that may not always be how it will be.

But anyway, given all that, it's quite satisfying seeing Aika get the most positive ending of the stories in this anthology.

Even after a decade this is still the best trans yuri story out there.
