Yuri Encounter:

Frequenting the bookstore to keep and eye out for "new" yuri releases has been a habit of mine since they've been available. I mean, pretend surprises are fun too... Citrus has recently (within the past month) started to take up a bit more shelf space. However, this past visit I came to find Citrus flipped backwards in all spaces where the cover should have been visible...curious, right? I picked one of them up...kinda glanced at it, put it back correctly...not putting much thought into it.

Until I looked down, that is.

On the shelf below I picked up a copy Girlfriends, cover out...right on top of the last Citrus presentation, still backwards underneath. Three years ago I would NEVER have imagined publicly getting a kick out of the yuri community. Took a good while to wipe the big smirk that brought, off of my face.

Poor girl is an open book...this'll be a fun read. Thanks for the translation!

Eh. I don't know how obvious it was for you, but looking at this page, I wasn't really expecting a girl. But then again, Itou Hachi makes all his characters so fluffy and cute, it's kinda hard to tell apart a tomboyish girl and a good-looking guy.

Well, when you are someone who commonly gets mistaken for a man, you grow more conscious of the small details that differentiate between male and female body.

You could tell that Oga-san was a girl before they really even revealed it, if you paid close enough attention. Male cheek and jaw bones are drawn differently. In some stories though, I feel as though they make the men more feminine in hopes that it won't draw as much negative attention (for this IS yuri and men are typically shunned).

I really enjoy how this artist puts faces to the "nobodies". It's always the small things that make a big difference in a good story.

At first, the 'not sticking to the obvious canon' was a little off-putting...

After reading more though, I've come to enjoy Haruko's openly-perverted side.
It keeps it rather refreshing and drama-free. (Not that all drama is bad.)
